“I wanted to sell art online in a way that created democracy in an industry where there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors and intimidation. I wanted to change all that and really disrupt it.” – Emily McInnes
Art is healing. It can enliven a space and improve your mood. However, the art world has long been hidden behind cultural gatekeepers and critics. Emily McInnes is trying to change this with her online gallery EYE BUY ART.
Emily joined Aine for an illuminating conversation about access to art and the importance of connecting with an artist’s story. She explains why it’s so rewarding to purchase from an artist over a mass-produced platform such as Ikea and goes into the importance of sitting with negative emotions.
Emily McInnes the founder of two art servicing businesses: one that curates site-specific contemporary art projects for corporate partners, and an e-commerce platform for emerging artists, EYE BUY ART. She started with the idea of having an online business and reverse-engineered the concept from there so that she would have flexibility and could start a family.
